I loved Romancing the stone when it was released, watched it many times on cable and a few times streaming. Great movie. IF you want a “fun” movie night pair it with War of the Roses.

I’m surprised there’s no mention here of the short-lived Fox TV show, which was revealed as a surprise direct sequel halfway through the first season. Despite the very questionable choice to portray Chris MacNeal as a predatory parent who ruthlessly exploited her daughter’s trauma, it was a lot better than I was

If Josh Brolin doesn’t scream “ATOMICS!” during the final battle I’ll be forced to give this movie zero out of 10 Gom Jabbars.

This does not sound good.

I think the best part of tonight’s episode was the brother. Completely without any agency at that age, trying to tune out the world through his ear pods or smartphone. When he finally has his fill of his sister and her friend, he tears off to the beach and sees the whale.

I won’t deduct him anything for The Mist. Even King admitted that had the better ending.

“Where are my testicles, David?

I was sure this was all horseshit before reading your post. Would’ve been nice to have that information in the article.

Robinson was the secret weapon of that show. He could have easily faded into the background but he had a way of breathing magic into his lines. “You arrested my grandfather?!” and “The devil made me do it” pop into my head instantly.

Maybe the movie had to hit you at the right time. I was about 7 when Goonies hit HBO on heavy rotation. If you’re about my age, that movie is right up there with Back to the Future and Ghostbusters as fun-as-hell action movies that have just enough cursing and scares to make it exciting for kids. With Goonies, I guess

Imma stand by Ross yelling about the sandwich. I tried Monica trick of taking a piece of bread and soaking it in gravy and then sticking it in the middle of the sandwich and it was glorious.

Barsanti accusing someone of dropping hot takes is peak AV Club.

I’ve got a Maverick one sheet hanging in my office.  That movie is so damned fun.

I’m surprised how Maverick has faded from public consciousness. It was really well-received at the time and did fairly well at the box office.

Hands down my favourite Mel Gibson film and one of the best movie adaptions of a tv show. I really like how James Garner isn’t just on screen as a nod to the original series and actually plays an important part to the film’s plot.

Jodie Foster is an absolute delight.

Mel Gibson has sure done a lot of shitty things, but his charm and abilities as an actor were top-tier for a good, long while.

I love that movie an unreasonable amount.

Immediately after graduating college but before moving to the city I would eventually call home about 5 months later, I spent a good 60% of my time that summer watching “Maverick” endlessly play on HBO and it’s friggin’ delightful.
