My union sucks (the executive board elections can’t come soon enough!), but the skilled trade unions in the area seem to know what they’re doing. If the Ironworkers start getting dumb, I’ll hear about it when my three year old goes to play with the neighbors’ two and four year old.

Journeyman base pay (before benefits) is right around $30/hour. Everything after 8 hours is time and a half. Saturdays are time and a half. Sundays are at least time and a half - perhaps double time, but don’t quote me on that.

Upstate New Yorker here. I’m sure what I hear about NYC is comparable to what people in the rest of the mitten (much less the UP) say about Detroit.

My neighbor is an Ironworker on the job, and they’ve ramped up to 10+ hour days, with only every other Sunday off. It’s ridiculous.
