You can have non-judicial Originalists, pretty much the entire argument against any kind of gun control is based on Originalism in some way. While judges are the only ones who can really ACT on it in some way, plenty of dipshit lawmakers attempt to construct laws with Originalism in mind.

Different types of weapons have pretty wildly different durability, metal weapons will tend to last much longer than wooden ones so that helps later on. Once you also start expanding your inventory its not quite as bad since you're carrying more back-up weapons anyway
