Technically, she half-heartedly tried to defend her position that there is a difference between the type of fries.

[Oddly, when I tried to post this response to John, I got a notice that said: The post you are trying to reply to has been removed by a moderator. All he wrote was:
"I dont think it has anything to do with U.S. being a better place. She justs wants to get away from her life, because she bored" Why would that be

I've been describing this show to people as a Situation Tragedy, but killing off Mrs. Baskets would be too much. Also, I can't imagine Louie Anderson not wanting to continue on the show or anyone involved in making the show wanting him to leave. He is a treasure, and this is a Travolta in Pulp Fiction level comeback.

I can imagine that Chip wasn't a smoker until Penelope put that cigarette into his mouth.

I wouldn't have thought it possible to de-villianize Penelope, but this episode managed it. Apparently her name is actually pronounced Pen Elope, which is appropriate for someone who gets a green card wedding.

What surprised you about the byline? The review was written by the same critic that has covered the entire season, Vikram Murthi. I've enjoyed his review a lot, but I didn't agree with this one on a number of points, including the B grade. I also disagreed about the Dale character. Seeing Mrs. B give Dale a hard time

The music that Chip wanted to listen to sounded a LOT like the theme from "Fawlty Towers". Wikipedia says the FT theme music was an original composition based on Beethoven's Minuet in G major. It made me smile as soon as I heard it. Basil Fawlty and Chip Baskets are both pretentious, rude, short-tempered,

I'm just catching up with the show and of the 3 episodes I've seen so far, this one was my favorite. I was surprised that it got a B and the other 2 got A-. It was nice when Chip said, "I'll buy one," and hilarious when Mrs. Buckets said, "I'll pay for it. I'll buy a membership for Chip. …We'll kill two birds with one

I wish I could post screenshots here. It was so quick, but I captured both faces and compared with photos of both characters/actors. One looks just like Ramse and the other looks like Cole but the shot is at an odd angle, kind of looking up his nose, so it's harder to tell. In a police lineup I'd say it was the same

Yup. In fact, I'm pretty sure you see them disguised as blue men in the finale.

Actually, what the creator of the machine needed was the woman he just dumped after a few days of marriage to come up with a serum that worked.

I love your theory that Cassie is The Witness, though I have some different ideas. I think The Witness is Olivia's father. I don't know if we've met him yet or not. When Ramse finally get out of prison in Japan, and he arrives at the Palace of the 12 Monkeys (or whatever),the tall, flower assassin guy said to Olivia,

I was about to write the same thing. Did you just re-watch it in preparation for season 2, too? I'm wondering, was I seeing things when they showed the faces of 2 of the grey men and one looked a LOT like Ramse (not sure if the other one looked like Cole or not… they only showed their eyes and they had all that

I'm curious, did you post this comment before or after watching Making a Murderer? ;)

I'm late to this discussion, but I have to say something. While first watching the scene in which Dassey's court-appointed lawyer's investigator manipulates and interrogates Brendon and had him imagine and draw pictures of torture and murder in Avery's bed, I assumed that this was an exercise to establish that Dassey

I hope you caught episode 5 when it aired yesterday….. one week after you posted this. :)

I'm kind of shocked that there are so few comments on this review (132 as of right now)! Are people not watching this show? This seems like just the kind of show that people on A.V. Club would be watching, for the visual effects if nothing else!

Does anyone understand why grinding up the head of a match and putting into a hot drink (was there anything in there but hot water?) would make it taste better or more like coffee? Do I have to lick a match to find out? Sulfur is not appealing to me at all, and I've never detected rotten eggs in coffee…

It's so nice to know that a show has a plan (as it is based on completed books) and that the writers aren't just making it up as they go along! The books are completed, aren't they? This isn't like Game of Thrones, right? Of course there have been great shows that weren't plotted ahead of time, but even certain things
