I was 13 or so and like you, don’t remember the domestic violence angle being mentioned at all.

seriously. So many people in that documentary talked about how their moms were abused or themselves. One of the most heartbreaking moments in the whole heartbreaking series was the elderly neighbor testifying on the stand hesitating and then bravely saying to the world that the reason she’d given Lorena the rape and

I had no idea she was so young. I do remember my first reaction was "she cut off his dick!?!?!?" My second, and lasting reaction was "what did he do?" His subsequent behavior only reinforced my inclination toward Team Lorena.

Yep—no argument there. I was a victim of domestic violence on several counts (also, this is why I don’t call it “intimate partner violence” unless it is limited to that. Families are affected; children not only see this but experience it as terror. And are often also physically abused). It was the eighties and it was

I’m one of the only women I know/knew from the first 24 years of my life who has not been abused by a partner...My father was abusive to the point where I had to call the police and have him arrested in the middle of the night when he was choking my mother and banging her head against the baseboards

Maybe I’m naive but I’d be surprised to learn that almost every household also has domestic violence. Mine doesn’t and it boasts three TVs.

That is truly terrible. The stalking must be so panic inducing. Hopefully the more this is discussed, the more seriously everyone will take it.

I remember my mom overhearing my high school boyfriend yelling at me because I didn’t spend enough time with him. I was yelling right back.

One of the things I find so...is ironic the right word?...is that so many people (men especially) respond to “alleged” rape or domestic abuse cases by saying that if they were a woman and a guy raped them, or tried to, they would cut his dick off. The implication being why did the woman not fight, or get revenge? If

I miss Pat Oliphant:

An exaggeration, but really, not by much. The statistics in the article point to one in four women being abused, and that’s a lot. My own experience growing up would have put it at more of the TV analogy—I’m one of the only women I know/knew from the first 24 years of my life who has not been abused by a partner (I’ve

Nice try, troll.

Just a reminder that marriage is essentially an institution invented so that a man can legally rape a woman as much as he wants. In fact, 1993 was the same year that all 50 states finally had legal protections against spousal rape. The idea of a husband “raping” his wife was essentially laughed off. Our society still

he’s dumber than shit and twice as low. any glimmer of thought is wrongly attributed to him, probably by shock radio jocks, who wined and dined him through the 90s or the porn ‘community’ who could make a buck of him and his mangled penis. Him; a serial rapist and woman beater.

I remember when all this happened & I am ashamed to say I didn’t take Lorena’s predicament very seriously. I & others were too busy laughing at the name “Bobbitt,” etc.

On one had, cutting off someone’s genitalia is horrifying. On the other hand, that’s just about the perfect punishment for a monster rapist.

you know how some news breeds similar news? Kind of like how all of a sudden the earth was collapsing in on itself during all the sink holes. Well around this time my small town went into an uproar because someone thought they found a severed penis at a car wash.

So I remeber when this was in the news, but I had no idea until just now that it was because she was so horrifically abused. I feel sick not only with the media inaccurately presenting this to the public but with her being punished for essentilay self defence/fighting for her life.

It infuriates me that crimes against women are not considered hate crimes. This was a domestic situation, which as stated, is indicative of larger acts of violence against women—like the recent yoga studio shootings. It says a lot about how misogynistic we are as a society when a man says “I went there to kill women”
