I meant course quality. Very few people can do the equivalent work that they would at home in a different language, even if they wanted to (except math majors?). Credits toward graduation might not be a problem, but you can still have problems meeting requirements for your major.

Personally I think it should only be done during a leave of absence (unless you are on the 5-year plan). The year of real coursework and opportunities for internships that you miss can be a serious problem unless you have a substantial resume and a clear career plan.
