Many good selling cars in europe have what you would class as a slow 0-60 so merging is not a problem. Plus here in the UK it's common courtesy to move into the fast lane to let people merge from a ramp safely. My car does 0-60 in 12.6 seconds and has no problems with getting up to speed in time.

They do have accidents. Also they have essentially have a limit that if you pass you're to blame for any accident. Not everyone does 130mph, a lot of the cars can't.
