I, as I imagine many other AV Clubbers do as well, always inquire about the musical tastes of men who are trying to pick me up.  When they respond that they only listen to "classic rock" it counts strongly against them.

I once drove Common to the airport.  And that's it.  My one celebrity encounter.

@avclub-6b462cb298fc5ba067c8c285d3ac8695:disqus Interestingly enough, the Dominos turnaround is rumoured to have been paid for by the government, the USDA’s Dairy Management to be exact.  The improvements amounted to the pizzas being cheesier, and the Dairy Management footed part of the bill for the ads.  http://blog.f

The White Stripes have really only sold 2 million records? Crazy. As a Detroit-er, I always find myself surprised at how much less popular they must have been elsewhere compared to here.  They were not Nickelback popular or anything, but people who don't venture too far away from top 40 still seem to be pretty

Oddly enough, most serial rapists only rape a certain profile of woman.  For the most part, black men rape black women, and white men rape white women, etc. I can't cite the source, but I remember hearing once  that, even if you adjust the statistics for population, a white woman is significantly less likely to be

I had the pleasure of hearing Mr. Belafonte give a talk at my university about a month back.  He was a dynamic and powerful speaker.  I felt a bit lazy hearing him talk.  The man is in his 80s and he is still putting his all into activism, planning summits, organizing youth to make a difference.  What a man.

Wages of Fear is a good unhappy ending.

It was phrased awkwardly, but I think he meant 42 percent of non-viewers spend a lot of time trying to look pretty, while 72 percent of viewers spend a lot of time trying to look pretty, and 38 % of the viewers say that a girl’s overall value is based on how she looks with no statistics offered on what percent of

I guess I just never thought of the opaque plastic cups that they have at college parties so that it isn't too obvious that under age kids are drinking alcohol in their facebook pictures as something that it would ever occur to anyone to rally around.  Will Mr. Keith next write a song about how real Americans carry

Obviously, he and I travel in different circles, but, apart from the occasional party with a keg, plastic cups, Solo or otherwise, are seldom an option.  Even the place with $1 PBRs has the decency to serve them in a glass.  Does Mr. Keith exclusively drink at fraternity parties?  Has he never graduated from the pay a

The only times when the thought 'What a fucking hipster' crosses my mind are when people complain about hipsters in a manner similar to my raciest great aunt complaining about the Jews.

Us Detroiters might actually be required by law to enthusiastically embrace anything that kind of makes the D look good, so the college bar that I was at was filled to the brim with under 35 fair weather baseball fans.  That's why I wasn't watching Community.

Yeah, considering how quick it is to get disks in the mail and how much greater the selection is, I don't understand how many people I've heard decrying the disks like they are absurd and archaic.  And it seemed like my (admittedly overstuffed) instant queue would decrease by by 10 or so every time I log in.

Same here.  And I haven't been affected by the price increase yet.

Maybe you just think they're unavoidable because you frequent so many hipster hangouts…

Only hipsters make fun of hipsters.  Normal people don't even know what hipsters are.

I have this odd obsession with My Fair Wedding.  I hate everything about it, but whenever I am flipping through the channels and it is on, I *have* to watch it.  I can't look away.

Not like I think their case has too much merit, but I wasn't under the impression that they were suing because they thought they should have been paid. I thought they were suing because they feel they were misled as to what the internship entailed and could have done something more productive with their time,  i.e. a

I think I might just have overly optimistic expectations how cultured the general populace is.  I (obviously) like classical music quite a bit, and almost every time I bring it up in conversation, I am surprised how little familiarity there is with the pieces that us classical music nerds consider to be the popular

This reminds me of how when Arcade Fire won the Grammy, there were all of those people confused as to who they were.  I remember finding that strange because I don't really consider myself to be super forward thinking or cool or whatever when it comes to contemporary music but I had been listening to Arcade Fire since
