Pacific Rim's already beaten Battleship stateside.

@avclub-573185e7a57bcdcd68d7895cf83ffe66:disqus I take it when you say "shonen", you really mean "indefinitely running fighting shonen". Shonen's a demographic (aimed primarily at males ages 8-20, sometimes aiming towards the younger end of that demo, sometimes to the older, and sometimes in cases like Black Butler…
Axe Cop works better in comic form, where the barrage of silliness is allowed to develop an epic grandeur as opposed to being jammed through 10 minutes, but I give them points for the voice acting and for the animation style (the actual animation not being anything special, but it's refreshing to see an American…
Their Off the Air specials they air sporadically are kind of awesome. And they get points for rescuing Sym-Bionic Titan from Cartoon Network's neglect (though new episodes for AS seem unfortunately unlikely). Toonami's line-up at the moment is kind of dull but they change things up enough that hopefully they'll add…
I wonder what the hell's up with Season 4. I remember seeing an interview with Regina King where she basically says the show jumps the shark after the first four or five episodes of the season, and recently I read something about Sony delaying the season another 6 months because of music rights or something, so I…
HEH-HEM!
The "marquee" shows like Naruto oddly enough suffer worse because of the fast schedule. The average one season anime show these days generally looks better due to having more time to plan things out.
Toonami.
I've enjoyed New York Comic Con the past couple years, which is steadily growing in size. How do the crowds there compare to San Diego? Since it sounds like the unbearable crowds would be the biggest deal-breaker about the San Diego con from the way people talk about it.
I wouldn't describe Book 1 as mediocre. More like 30% great, 50% really good, and 20% frustratingly bad. Mediocre doesn't enter into the equation.
Daily reminder to ask Cuaron WTF he was thinking: http://the-lfb.com/2013/07/…
If you get into WB's panel Saturday, please ask Cuaron a question for me: http://the-lfb.com/2013/07/…

Though the whole "90s kids" phenomenon which tends to overlap with old Spongebob nostalgia, while not creepy, is incredibly annoying, especially when it involves people bashing Adventure Time while praising shit like, I dunno, Space Jam.
WB really botched the marketing for the movie. It seems they wouldn't even let theaters show it outside of matinees.
Conjuring's been getting awfully strong reviews and wide release horror movies tend to open well, so I'm betting on it for #1. Turbo's working on a 5-day weekend and still has a lot of family competition so it might be #2 for the 3 days but #1 for the 5. RIPD's kind of a wild card; could be a surprise hit, could be a…
… which exist for all movies, so there's no comparable advantage to seeing Grown Ups 2 that there is for going to McDonalds.
71% on Rotten Tomatoes and 7% on Rotten Tomatoes are not equivalent. There's a difference between a light popcorn movie that's not particularly intellectually demanding and a cynical exercise that might actually make people stupider from watching it.
It's already outgrossed Scott Pilgrim, at least. And with Turbo cutting into the kids demographic, I could see Despicable Me 2 and Grown Ups 2 taking some sizeable drops with Pacific Rim could hold pretty well for its second weekend.
McDonalds has the distinct advantage of being cheap. Movie tickets, unless you're talking 3D or IMAX, cost the same for every movie.
