Benicio del Toro for Sicario.

What baffles me most is how Winter’s Bone, a indie film about JLaw taking a boat ride through the swamp to saw off her dead father’s hands, is somehow more worthy of recognition than Tangerine.

Don’t forget Iris Elba for Beasts of No Nation, and his enormously impressive young co-star Abraham Attah who essentially carried the movie despite this being his very first credit. I’d also throw in O’Shea Jackson Jr. for Straight Outta Compton.

God I just love her so much. I want to give her a hug and tell her it’s all going to be okay.

I voted for Nader in 2000, so don’t give me this “critiques of Naderites” thing. I did so because (1) I live in California so it didn’t matter; (2) I was a young idiot; and (3) I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA SO IT DIDN’T MATTER.

Nineteen days into 2016.

She definitely deserves justice. But planting evidence on someone suing the county for $36 million and coercing a developmentally delayed teenager with an IQ of 72 into a false confession is not justice. If you saw the interrogation of that boy, it would make you want to throw up.

Here’s the thing, though- they reached out to Halbach’s family to try to talk to them for the documentary, and they flat out refused to participate. So did the prosecution and the police. The only people who agreed to participate were the Averys. So of course it’s going to focus on that part of the story when those

AND to be fair, anyone who claims to eat authentic Mexican food will not be chowing down on a burrito (which is an americanismo); so this whole conversation is moot.

Not hyperbole because Mountain Dew Baja Blast is the greatest soft drink ever created, available only at Taco Bell and makes all of their food somehow taste 1000 times better. It’s also impossible to get tired of. I think it’s laced with all sorts of wonderful drugs or magic. Maybe both.

I like Ricky Gervais and his humor. And honestly, all the hate and outrage he gets here on this site just makes me shake my head.

Can we stop calling them “manacles” and just call them “fuzzy pink handcuffs”?

They presented hand cuffs from a sex toy shop with none of Thresa’s dna on them. Nothing I have read that was left out was particularly damning, seemed less so than what was in the documentary. Also most of it comes from the shady sexting DA who declined to participate and is a cry baby about it.

It’s not that biased. It’s from the defense and family’s perspective, but they asked the prosecution if they wanted to be in it repeatedly and they said no. The trial was about 6-7 weeks so they had to cut down all that footage to 10 hours. Obviously not everything is going to be shown. The point was never to paint

But Teresa’s DNA was not found on those chains/manacles.

I don’t know, but we should definitely harass Schumer about it as much as possible.

this fuckin guy

Any article that considers pornography evidence of a crime is INCREDIBLY suspect to me. I think what’s particularly challenging about this case is that while a lot of that information is suspicious, only the DNA and the bullet are strong evidence that an actual crime had been committed. (And the DNA testing on the

(I know they couldn’t do that in trial but the filmmakers totally could have)

I’m not sure who’s floating the theory that the police actually killed her? Most of what’s gone around is either the brother/ex bf/roommate or Brenden’s older brother. Generally the thought is she went missing, the last place she happened to be seen alive was at the Avery place, and the police jumped at the
