Sorry but I hate PS's combat for precisely those reasons. Monster Hunter is more challenging and much more rewarding to play well, IMO. PS is too precise.

I haven't really played much PS so I can't have an opinion but I didn't really like it. Granted I've only played that DS one, PSO2 (a little) and PSU.

It actually has the best combat in any action game I've ever played. Obviously, it's my opinion but it's still pretty acclaimed for having a top notch combat system.

I only played it recently for the first time. I think it aged pretty well if you can get used to the controls.
