Frankly I'd be more inclined to buy a Sony console if they DID cut Gamestop completely out of the picture. I haven't bought a computer game (or component for that matter) from a physical store in years, no reason to think consoles won't go the same way eventually.

Actually I think this generation's hardware will be watched like a hawk. Everyone remembers the debacle of the 360's Red Ring of Death happening to so many machines, so it's safe to assume the manufacturers will be under much more scrutiny.

My PS3 finally died last month (yellow light of death) and I realized I was more upset at not being able to play my blu-ray movies than my PS3 games. Oh, I'll replace it eventually since I have a fair number of PSN games, but I've been playing PC games almost exclusively for a while now.

Used PC games went away because people were going home, copying the game, and then returning the original for a full refund. Game stores just stopped accepting game returns because of that. There never WAS a "used PC game" market.
