I don’t think mini wants to be competing with Kia Fortes - they have always (at least since their relaunch in the early 00s) tried to be a small premium car.

If you look at it that way, sure. But everything on the road has grown, some because we’re all fat now, but lots because the new mini is pretty safe and resilient in a crash, compared to the soda can that was the OG mini.
