I *think* there's three actual translated prototypes known to exist (one of which the repro was made from,) but my NES trivia is a little rusty at the moment so I could be wrong there. I do know they're really expensive though. :-P

It's not a fan translation. Nintendo actually fully localized Earthbound/Mother and then just never released it because they wanted to focus on Super Nintendo games.
