It’s not even just in Texas. Training nationwide is lacking. And that’s for the more “acceptable” earlier stage abortions. Get to the late term and we just have to hope people like Dr Hern live for a long long time and can/want to keep practicing!

Not med students, residents.

I heard that story. And republicans try to pretend these laws and policies are all about the safety of the women. Untrained or poorly trained practitioners are a much greater risk than not having wide hallways. Who do they think they’re fooling?

That’s exactly what I told my S.O. today. We can’t take this ruling for granted. We have to keep fighting.

To compound the issues, even if they can open their doors, they’ll have a difficult time finding doctors who can perform abortions. NPR had a story just the other day about barriers to training in Texas, which basically boil down to Texas thinks it’s acceptable to make their med students go out of state to learn how

Glad this was overturned but the damage has already been done. It's going to take years for clinics to reopen or to make new ones. Still women are going to suffer while they rebuild.

Of course it won’t. Opening new clinics isn’t cheap or easy. And they still have to battle with asshole hostile local politicians to get licenses.

I’ve been waiting for this show for so long. Holy crap it’s almost here. Praise dance.

It’s not only a thing, it’s a thing that is only considered a fucking misdemeanor! Even though attempted strangulation is scientifically proven to increase a woman’s chances of being murdered by that very man 7-fold.

He was the WORST king bless his heart

Poor sweet baby Tommen. The world was far too cruel to him.

Here’s something to make it all more horrifying, in many abusive men’s groups/education programs, they all share tips about how to abuse without getting caught/leaving visible marks. I have had clients whose husbands came home from such programs and showed them what they’d learned from their classmates.

Women don't actually need to breathe to live, so it's a lesser charge. They just do all that breathing for the attention.

Because intimate partner abuse can totally be fixed with rehab. Hey, as long as his life isn't ruined over some pesky abuse charges, right?

I don’t. Should I? I am very much an idiot.

This is the kind of person who needs to never be allowed within a hundred feet of a gun.

Non-fatal strangulation is a major risk factor for homicide of women. It increases the odds of being a homicide victim seven-fold. I wonder what evidence exists to demonstrate the success of this six month batterers program at reducing domestic violence...
