The main reason they up-charge is because weddings are more work and pressure for a given size of event. If you do call them out on it, be ready and willing to make concessions and guarantees that you will not require that extra work.

It’s basically a “dealing with a wedding party” surcharge. As a baker, somehow a wedding cake always ends up being waaay more work than an equivalent cake for a different event.

As far as the photographer that’s not an apples to apples comparison. They’re probably using more equipment for the wedding (lights/more lenses/second shooter/etc), more post work will be necessary and it might be included in the price, and its alot more work in general as it will include getting group shots, family,…

So just buy them and pay them to keep doing what they are already doing.
