“Meth mouth” isn’t really directly caused by amphetamine usage, as someone else has already noted upthread. There are side effects of amphetamines that can contribute to poor oral health - like chronic dry mouth, as well as jaw clenching and grinding - but, in general, stereotypical meth addicts are more likely to

Agreed. There is a HUGE difference between opioids used for recovery and those used for chronic pain. Most chronic pain sufferers would be helpless or dead without them, and those are the people I worry about in regards to the new legislation efforts—one of the foremost aims of which has openly been to drive up prices

I truly hate that this is the top comment here. There are many conditions, including mine, for which opioids are the only thing that touches the chronic pain. I don’t get ‘high’ from my meds - I get the gift of being more-or-less able to live a normal life! I would LOVE to not have to take opioids, but I am young,

I’m really sorry—I can imagine how this discussion might effect you because it upsets me a lot. You suffer enough with your pain condition—you don’t need other people sticking their noses in and judging the treatment that you and your doctors have carefully chosen.

Thank you. I’m another person with chronic pain who takes prescription opioids (exactly as prescribed, and never more than I need) and has for years, because the alternative is that I would be in agony and unable even to get out of bed, rather than merely in constant severe pain but able at least to work and support

I’m with you. I have a chronic pain condition and a good friend has a chronic pain condition as well. If a person follows the recommendations of a responsible doctor, then narcotics can be a necessary tool for leading a decent life. The answer to this current problem with narcotics has got to be way more complex than

Chronic pain is hard and so many people just make blanket statements without knowing the facts. I have a PKD ... a kidney disease that causes the kidneys to grow to the size of footballs. I have back and side pain along with pain from chronic kidney stones. In a perfect world, I’d take ibuprofen or Aleve which work

Thank you for this. People with chronic pain need this medication, and people who abuse it fuck things up for everyone else. Chronic pain sufferers don’t get high, they just get relief.

Glad you’re back.

And you’re thankful that it’s there and you wouldn’t take more and you’re on top of every element and you accept that the pain won’t be gone but it might be manageable.

People experiencing chronic debilitating pain because doctors refuse to prescribe pain meds is also a problem. My husband has been taking Vicodin for 15 years....since he fell off a roof and broke his back. And it’s getting harder and harder for him to get anything to treat his pain. He probably goes through 30 pills

i don’t agree with this post, if I’m understanding you correctly. Which I may not be, it’s pretty early here. For example, a week of narcotic medication only? For ANY type of surgery or illness? And yeah, life wasn’t an unmitigated hell scape of pain for everyone before the 1990s but it was for some people. It still

I want to cry, but I can’t afford to lose the moisture.

That is so kind and wonderful that your mother and yourself can look back with such understanding. I’m glad you found out and reacted with such love.

Some helpful hints before you post that #notallmen comment!

Shit, this breaks my heart.

You know, I’m pretty okay with not getting men “jumping on board” if those men are such petulant, self-absorbed little babies that they can’t deal with the idea that being beaten, raped, or murdered is objectively worse than a woman not wanting to date you. I have no interest in recruiting “allies” whose ally status

The fucking guy is an animal, no question. And the victim and her family deserves justice. But could we stop it with the prison rape as a wish fulfillment already?

Yet we are the ones that are too emotional and not logical enough. Uh huh....

But they have to stop the non-existent transgender threat. You know to protect women and children that are property of said republican men. They get to do whatever they like with their property so domestic abuse laws aren’t in their best interests.
