You are on thin ice right now. That is exactly where Rambo Tux wants you.

The engine swaps and mods is what makes NPoCP interesting. It gives us something to talk about. Otherwise, we'd be referring to book values for the vehicles, which is boring.

I avoided going to Office 2007 for as long as I could. Once you get used to the ribbons, it's not that bad. Office 2010 added better equation editing. As a math professor who has to live in an Office environment, that is a big deal. If only my other colleagues knew LaTeX.

An old laptop or desktop should do the trick. Raspberry Pi's are just the popular new toy. Honestly, I don't think this is any better than the flashdrive in my pocket, but I appreciate the DIY effort.

We refinanced recently, and we didn't even know that the appraisal was done. I called the bank to ask about arranging it, and they said it was already done. The appraiser probably just drove by the house and didn't get out of the car.

This is not a direct analogy, but a good motivation for this discussion.

This year, Gallon Man was in the math classrooms of both of my children.

You're right about the pen making the notebook more useful. I figured that the Livescribe is not in the spirit of this poll. I included it too keep the discussion from being entirely about which moleskine is best. Fortunately, a few other folks have good non-moleskine suggestions.

Vote: Livescribe A5 Grid Notebook.

For a while, I used my iPad's clock app as an alarm. I set it to play the credits music for The Incredibles. (The Incredits) It's great music for waking up ready to save the day.

Your last question is the most important, and only you can answer it.

[Edit: Never mind.]

I really want to annotate that slide rule.

Being one of the great geniuses of the 20th century doesn't hurt either.

Will tire rubber mark up floors?

Nate,

You need to give the torque numbers when discussing diesel engines. Usually, the horsepower in a diesel is lower than a comparable gas engine, but the torque numbers are much better. Horsepower is great for track cars or show-off cars, but torque is better for normal driving.

Why would someone want to do this? It seems to me that you could accomplish just as much with the smartphone by itself as with a Raspberry Pi tethered to it.
