But I would argue that being with Mabel and friends (presumably he has some friends in California, or will make some in high school) would be good for his psyche in a way that apprenticing with Ford would NOT be. Dipper's already paranoid and obsessive enough. Being stuck with Ford would be terrible for the kid.

I'm not saying you're wrong (because what the hell do I know? I don't work for the show or Disney) but why does there have to be something after this season? Beyond averting Gravity Falls withdrawals for us all, of course.

Regarding 2, I really hope not. That would be brutal.

Something tells me Gideon's deal is going to become important in the next episode. I don't think the dinosaurs are ever going to be dealt with, but it would be awesome if I were wrong and while all hell is breaking loose they also get freed. I also won't be surprised if what Ford was doing in there for those thirty

Alex Hirsch has said that he wanted to tell the story of one summer before they turned 13. Sort of a "coming of age" idea. That's why their birthday was placed at the very end of summer, bonus symbolic points. He also said in an interview some time ago (or was it the AMA he did? I can't recall) that he was

As someone who only just started getting into Rick and Morty, I for one appreciate your discretion!

While I think you are 100% correct, emotionally, it's just devastating to think that such a good, good show will end after only two seasons. I never wanted Gravity Falls to be the kind of show that just went on, and on, and on, with nothing ever changing and no one ever growing, until it peters out and became a poor

I wish I had your optimism! I know rationally that things will work out okay in the end—would Disney really allow a total downer ending?—but it sure feels hopeless to me.

I hear you. Life after Gravity Falls isn't something I even want to think about. It's possible Alex Hirsch changed his mind since he's talked about it last, but at the time he seemed pretty definite on the whole "Gravity Falls = one summer" thing.
Who knows, there's also always a possibility that Disney will say,

It's been nearly a decade so my memory may be failing me, but I think we waited in line for it.

It's not the finale. There's another episode airing on October 26th. Also, Alex Hirsch has said the series will only take place over the course of this one summer, and that the kids' birthday is the last day of summer. So while this episode wasn't the season finale, it's not unlikely that we're looking at an

And I blame you, you pointy yellow jerk!

That one, too. By far the most purely creepy episode yet (and I do love me some disturbing stuff).

Absolutely. I think one of Ford's big mistakes is not realizing that the fastest or most prestigious way to your goals is not the only way. He clearly did just fine for himself going to Backupsmore University. Likewise, staying with Ford as an apprentice might get Dipper where he wants to be, but he'll lose out on

There's some great television on right now, and somehow the most mature, beautiful, well-written and well-characterized one of the lot is an animated Disney XD show. I'm not sure how this happened, but it's a lovely thing.

It was amazing, but I think I'd rank "Not What He Seems" and maybe "Northwest Mansion Mystery" slightly above it. It amazes me, though, how pretty much none of my favorite episodes come from the first season by this point… season 2 has been on fire from the very beginning.

To be fair, he said "maybe." It's quite possible that it will only be the two seasons (though I would KILL for a movie!)

And putting it like that, I'd have made the same deal. I'm not ready for Gravity Falls to end!

This episode made me feel sick with moments like that. But, like, in a good way. I've never been so invested in the lives of cartoon characters… all I want is for everyone to be okay, and uh, judging by that credits sequence…

I love all these characters because they're so well-written. Which means I love them, even for their flaws. But dammit, Ford, why did you have to implore Dipper not to tell anyone about the rift? Dipper learned a better lesson in "Tourist Trapped," that he could always trust Mabel. Ford, with all his paranoia and
