I have a problem with the math quoted in the article.

7500 tax credit only works if you have 7500 in taxes, which for many even middle class families with a couple of children doesn’t apply.
It’s called an example. I didn’t say that everyone wants a 3-series.
Thank you for helping make my case. Those ‘legitimate and understandable’ reasons are exactly why EVs don’t make sense for 95% of new vehicle buyers, as I stated. Will that change in the future? Probably. But in 2019, I stand by my statement.
Total Cost of Ownership (Depending on class of vehicle, it can absolutely be lower. For instance, 3-series vs. Model 3.)
Something like 65% of electricity is generated from fossil fuels in the US. Just because your car is powered by electricity doesn’t make it clean.
Ya, because shifting the environmental load to different areas is actually going to solve the problem.
This is a losing argument.
I ate 2 donuts today and 1 last fall. OMG, YoY donut consumption must be on an exponential growth pace!!!
Gasoline is energy-dense, easily portable and storable.
My 10 year old Yaris with 200,000 miles only has one of your maintenance items: oil changes. Overall cost per mile has been very affordable. I find it hard to believe an electric car will save me money.
If you think that is bad, the co2 from mining pales to the methane released from oil excavation.
Environmental reasons aside, due to a recent “misfire cylinder 1 code” on my EJ has me really looking at an EV as my next car.
I sound like a broken record at this point, but if these reasons are so compelling, then why are so few people buying them?
If any of these were compelling enough to switch, why are 1-2% of new vehicle sales in the US electric?
This shrill response would almost make sense if there weren’t other easier means of mitigating carbon emissions. And it’s not like BEVs don’t come with downsides.
Per Wikipedia, 64% of US electricity is generated by fossil fuels.
I guess 99% of new car buyers last year were sociopaths then?
Exactly.
Possibly true if CO2 is the only pollutant you care about?
