I don't google candidates as often as I used to. We only stumbled upon boring personal stuff. There was only that one time we came across a candidate we had strong reasons to believe was an active supremacist.
I just moved back after being in India for three years. Of all places, I cannot stress enough how well this technique works in airline/hotel/help desk/etc. counters.

@ericesque: Yes... after several failed attempts at work. We ended up with an online staffing and prospects pipeline in Google Docs. It just hit everyone that it was a far more effective way to track/update stuff; no need to make it mandatory.
My sister-in-law is the perfect candidate for this scheme: she burns her whole paycheck month after month. I for my part have never had to do this; I've always saved 10 to 50% of my income.
Be careful of what you wish for: I used to envy those that telecommute... til my boss started to do it. I remember our daily conference call like this "so, regarding that status report......ANDRECITO!!!! PUT THAT KNIFE DOWN!!!... I'm sorry, go on, you were saying...".
I'm skeptical. Aren't microwave ovens supposed to have an exhaust to remove all steam buildups while in use?
@Dacker: Agree with the extra step problem of emailing links. As far as sending resumes as PDFs, not much luck on my end. DOC is the defacto standard.
