Compensation is a function of supply and demand. If there are plenty of people like you on the streets, it doesn't matter what Jedi mind tricks you pull on me: you will not get that "so deserved" raise. Period. (OK, maybe you will, but only if you truly stand out from your colleagues and want you around).

I couldn't agree more with eliminating email redundancies. I've been shooting my one-page CV with a short and sweet introduction. Maybe my expectations were low but so far I am surprised with the responsiveness; it makes a big difference.

Mmmhh...I wished I thought about that...a knew a guy who spilt wine on a Macbook screen. He realized the cost to have it replaced here in India was prohibitive and was selling it with an LCD monitor for barely anything.
