All of this.  Nobody cares much how the sausage is made, just that they get to eat it.

Agreed. Sawant is the real deal.

I think you’re reading a bit too much into word choice. “I believe” is just filler.

I think you’re reading a bit too much into word choice. “I believe” is just filler. Ditto with “I think.”

Thank you for all your hard work Tom.

But it isn’t clear what exactly they think is going on behind the scenes beyond a gut feeling

For the love of humanity, listen to science and please wash your hands.

The abysmal state of healthcare in the US means that the country is primed to be hit hard by this virus.

What other vaccines are necessary to prevent a rapidly spreading pandemic?

Things aren’t black and white. It isn’t “panic” to acknowledge this has the potential to kill a lot of people.

Its effects on the economy etc. will also depend upon its prevalence. 10-20% of those infected, while not dying, become seriously ill. If it spreads rapidly and has a high prevalence, you could see a significant proportion of the workforce out of commission, and that’s not considering those that stay away from work to

It’s takes a good coronavirus to stop a bad coronavirus.

53 cases with a .7% mortality rate means not seeing any deaths is well within the laws of probability. Particularly since that death rate is averaged across age groups and, as far as I know, none of the cases were in the more vulnerable age ranges.

Normally influenza kills people who are already in bad shape or don’t have the body mass to keep going until the immune system kicks the invader’s butt to the curb - old people and babies and those afflicted with serious diseases or malnutrition.

technically there are already steps in place to protect people from the flu. There are vaccines that are “somewhat” effective and “reasonably” available.

While I’ve got you fine folks here, what are some burning questions you might have about the coronavirus? Might do something where I cover FAQs

What amazes me is that people don’t understand the difference between total deaths and mortality rate. Sure, the flu has killed more people to date. But this virus appears to have both a much higher mortality rate and a higher infection rate. Which makes it potentially more dangerous and capable of a higher death

1917 called, says you have nothing to worry about.

This is Dictator 101 stuff here.

The first time I used Instacart, it took me about as long to order $200+ in groceries as if I went to the store. Since then, my shopping time is less than half that since I don’t have to search for the pantry staples like I did the first time.
