Cable set-top boxes are supposed to kick you out of any apps or other programming if an alert comes through. What I really think would help is if gaming consoles would display local alerts through their online services as a scroll like on TV.

I think this is a pretty reasonable thing to do. Emergency alerts on ones mobile phone are easy to avoid but interrupting a streaming service to deliver an alert is a great way to get to people who might otherwise be out of touch in the loop.
