Brooks’ next column: “Why is David Brooks so disliked?”
I went to Evan’s Bio, and it’s worth it! One of his dealbreakers is “chipped nail polish”. I always knew the contestants were deeply broken sociopaths, but I fully expect a long shot of this man calmly sharpening a knife before the season’s end.
Call the kid Yahweh. Then never refer to him/her by name.
“Her death wasn’t a tragedy, her life was” is almost verbatim the thought that runs through my head when I don’t take care of my mental health, so fuck this ‘person’.
Secretly? I fell off a rowing machine because I was dancing in my seat to “your type”. It’s my proudest moment.
I tried to watch it, I did, but my cable box kept reading it as The Blue Light instead!
As far as I can think it through, what’s happened to the Sanders campaign is a symptom of believing that electoral politics begin and end with the presidential election. I like and agree with a lot of Sanders’ positions, but have been wary of turning him into my own personal avatar for my dissatisfaction with the pace…
Me too! “Look at the Democratic party, being all smart and having a respectful debate about ideas and principles!” ——me a few months ago. What a dummy I was!
I’m actually kind of pissed at the milquetoast response from Sanders more than anything. This primary season has made me question the maturity of most of the country so a bunch of entitled assholes throwing a hissy fit is not surprising , but I’d hoped Sanders would remind his supporters to act like adults.
Fellow Washingtonian; can we all just agree that we welcome a Canadian invasion of this little corner of the world? Call it a liberation and break out the champagne!
I suppose my reaction is colored by my own mental health history. The first couple times I had episodes I said and did very callous things (nothing quite like this though) to people I cared for very much. Seeking help—in my case medication and therapy—improved how I responded to my own little demons, but it didn’t…
The mental health thing always has me conflicted. On the one hand, sure maybe she has a mental health issue. Maybe she also just has a poor filter, bad ideas, and surrounds herself with enablers. Moreover, I kind of feel like intention does not equal blameworthiness. She may be under the influence of any number of…
While that’s certainly possible, it seems just as likely that she’s just surrounded by people who enable and encourage her bad behavior. I always got the impression that she was one of those awful people who refer to any mean, offensive thing they say as “being too real” or “being authentic”. I only say this because I…
I actually don’t necessarily buy the equivocation between ‘exclusive’ and ‘privilege’ though I’m willing to be convinced.
The best (not very good) idea I can think of is to address the specific inequality in influence between historically monied all male social clubs and their female equivalents. Figure out some kind of matching fund thing, or put in place policies that specifically include female social clubs in student government. All…
This was actually my concern when I read the story yesterday; that, in the hopes of doing away with the privilege attached to exclusive clubs, the actual benefits of gender specific clubs would be lost. It seems like there has to be some sort of middle ground, but I’m at a loss...
Nope, that’s when you’re at a Jane Austen Society event (whole different thing.)
NSFW (kinda?) but this somehow reminded me of this:
OK, just because it is going to ruin my day if I don’t figure it out: did anyone listen to this doofus’s morning edition interview? He tells the host that the case against this law violates a logical fallacy, and specifically references Aristotle. I think he means non-contradiction, but I cannot for the life of me…
