Get the best condition B7 Audi A4 wagon you can find. It’s just a better car than anything else mentioned.(R32 may be debatable, but the A4 is better) Somehow it’s also more reliable than anything else mentioned too.

Pfffft, nothing compared to my 944 transaxle cooler. Just look at the sophistication. What you can’t see is the factory engine oil cooler that causes starvation, and ultimately leads to rod bearing failure. 80's German technology for the win.

Turbos certainly help. My 1.6 miata was turbo charged for most of my ownership of the car. A turbo car is still going to lose power and take longer to spool at altitude though. The power loss can be solved easier than with an NA car though.

Turbo cars still lose 10%-15% power up here, and still take longer to spool than they would at sea level.

All of these “slow car fast” cars are great at sea level. Up here a mile above sea level, the lack of power kinda kills the fun. For example, my old 1.6 Miata would power over steer at sea level.(only just so and with the torsen LSD). Up here at altitude it was not any more fun than a similarly powered front drive…

I had a 91 16v wagon in white with a 5 speed. Nice price all day. I love these cars. The fact that the lower lip in intact is an indication that the rest of the car is in good shape as well.
