Jim Henson truly did put imagination on film. It saddens me to think that we will never see its like again.

I had that book. Pretty sure it’s in storage at my mother’s house. It was an amazing book. The art of the Dark Crystal is even better than the actual movie. The behind-the-scenes features on the DC DVD are also astoundingly cool. There’s just something magical about not only Henson’s vision but the artistry of making…
“Now, the acting in Bangarang isn’t that great”
That’s “The World of the Dark Crystal”, and it was reprinted a while back. You could probably pick one up relatively cheap now!
It’s a truly lovely book, It never fails to inspire me.
Gah! This is beautiful. There was also an amazing book with the artwork that came out around the same time as the movie. Kid-me could not afford the price and kept signing it out of the library. It had vellum overlays of sketches over the artwork and so many notes and paintings. oof!
And on a somewhat related note: God I miss Cinefantastique.
Came for this. Not disappointed.
Black Vulcan doesn’t even make sense as a name for an electricity based character. Vulcan was the god of volcanos, earthquakes and the weapomsmith of the gods. His powers should have been based on some combination of that.
Bless you.
I’d always wait for the other kids to pick their superheroes and then be like, “OK, I’m the Beyonder. You’re dead, you’re dead, you’re dead, I win.”
This trend gets even more interesting if you look at the number of black characters who have mechanical limbs or high-tech armor. Off the top of my head: Cyborg, Deathlok (Michael Collins), Steel, War Machine, Battalion, and arguably the latest rendition of Black Panther, whose suit glows with vibranium circuitry…
I’m currently sitting here w/half of my body the color of the outside of a Snickers bar, the other half the color of nougat after spending last week in Malibu. I fail at tanning.
Unfortunately there’s a little more to it. The theater keeps half, and then the studio also pays for marketing on top of the budget. Rule of thumb is to just say break even is 2x the budget, but sometimes its even higher if there are like super bowl commercials and what not. And for what it’s worth, if you have to…
1. YOU didn’t learn all the maths
2. You also didn’t use google to the fullest extent.

I feel like someone has to do this everytime someone talks about how much money a movie made.
“No no, Papaw. Not that chair. Here we found you a comfy chair waaaay over here. Yes, it’s away from that noisy set- and look it’s leather and it reclines! That’s right, just sit down and maybe have a little nap...”
I’d say it’s fair to say he’s just lost his touch in general. In the last ten years he’s made Covenant, prometheus, the counselor, exodus, body of lies and the Martian.
