I fucking hated season 4. Season 5 more than makes up for it and might be the best Whedon season OF ALL TIME.
He has a career 27 WAR, and most every year (besides this one) posts above a 2 WAR, making him an average player. Does he have a bad contract? Yes. Is he worthless? No.

The big problem with ERA is that it's not predictive of future performance at all. There is a lot of noise in that stat so guys whose talent doesn't change year to year will have large changes in ERA.
