Interesting you should ask. They were originally planning to make the engine block from solid gold, but they had to make it more cost effective.

But he was afraid the americans would ruin it...
Top Gear USA should be hosted by Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld, and some third guy. Who's with me?
Easy:
As soon as I read "Extremely Dramatic" I felt bad for making this:
...or a 928
I see a 944 dash up there
So I'm given a budget of $6000 to buy a 944? I would get a mechanically and cosmetically great 944 turbo. I say that because I just bought a mechanically and cosmetically great 1983 944 for $2800. It runs like a dream and looks great.
I too have a 944 (1983). I would have the ST for a couple of reasons. One being that it's different. What is a BRZ but a new age 944? I'm not saying a 944 and BRZ would be the same to drive, but they would be a lot more similar than a 944 to ST comparison. The ST would be more fun in a straight line where the 944 is a…
There are definitely new cars that trip my trigger like a Focus ST, GTR, or even a GT500 (I didn't say they were similar), but I when I'm ready for a "new" car, I'll be looking for something old. Something like a Porsche 951 if I don't have that much money, or an E30 M3 if I do.

This is indeed a Saab story. I'd pay good money for a 900 like that.
My '79 Jeep CJ-7 had this issue as well.It also had removable doors. They couldn't have made a car easier to steal.
