“Incredibly clever but incredibly thick” describes some of the best humans I know. Totally agreed.
Slingshot Channel?
We’re going to build a Grand Clone Army, and we’re going to make the separatists pay for it!
You’re as useless as a marzipan dildo!
THAT’S what makes it so good. We have another Donna companion. Someone who the plot doesn’t immediately revolve around. Bill is obviously a quite a bit smarter than Donna. She asks a lot of obvious questions, but they’re not stupid obvious (if that makes sense). She’s plain and ordinary, and I like it.
This series should not work. No overarching plot out of the gate yet (vault?). No mystery about the companion, or prophecy, either. So far it just seems very S.T.O.W to me.
I winced when I saw it, as I knew you were about to be yelled at. We mean no harm, and most of us are somewhat lovable when we’re not in crotchety eccentric mode.
Because it’s only AFTER Jon pledges his life that he’s safe. As far as Ned knows, Robert will continue to be king for many more years, and it is always his intention to protect his friend as the “rightful” king on the throne. Since Robert has made it clear he will kill all Targaryens, but the black more or less…
There is no way in hell Weinstein doesn’t know that saying fuck multiple times gets you an R-rating by default. It feels like a crass publicity stunt to get outrage going over the ‘wrongful’ R-rating, possibly to distract attention away from casting a cis actress.
I would submit that The Phantom Menace is much better than Attack of the Clones.
The official reason is probably because she was travelling on a tourist visa and admitted she would be ‘working’ while in the US, which is a violation and grounds for refusal. But it’s one those ‘violations’ that on a different day is ignored and the person let through.
My favorite fun fact about Neimoidians: According to TV Tropes, they changed their accents in every localization. The german dub had them speaking a ridiculous french accent. So it was very important to make them as offensive as possible.
The droideka are one of the better designs of the PT. There is something that makes you “Oh crap!” when you see them. I think they were the first droids on film that posed a real threat or am I wrong?
I agree. The only prequel that was actually kind-of crap was AotC.
My wife likes to say that the power of the light side is the power of coincidence. It puts the right people/things together in the right place, and lets it just play out. I like that version of the force.
The pre-Jar Jar stuff is actually not bad.
The Phantom Menace is largely legitimised for me by its ending. In that it gives us a kickass villain (who’s sadly under-utilised) and one of the best pieces of music Star Wars has ever produced in Duel of the Fates.
While the stylistic choices in that episode are wonky...the story itself is heartbreaking and well executed. Everyone always bitches about this episode as some hallmark of bad by Chibnall. It’s really not. And it forgets ALL the other AMAZING Torchwood he scripted.
Yeah, he re-created the sexy android trope on a notoriously horny show. What a monster.
