The episode was wonderful. Thurm in his review brings up some solid points about how Ruby and Sapphire aren't the most well-defined characters, even after this episode, and how Garnet's origin story isn't exactly groundbreaking. Everyone, even Steven, knew "The Answer" was love!
One small detail I liked from the episode was how when Blue Diamond's escaped from Rose and Pearl, her throne turned into a caravan thing that looked like a modified Injector from the Kindergarten.

I highly recommend watching Utena! Rebecca Sugar being a fan of the anime is one of the reasons I started watching SU in the first place. Overall, both Utena and SU are thematically quite similar, while Utena is a bit more mature and dense that SU, at least up to this point. (Not a knock against SU at all.)

Animating in the style of shadow plays and using fairy tales as a framing device also echoes Utena, one of the major influences on SU overall.
A line Peridot said in "Back to the Barn" really illustrates the inherent classism back on Homeworld: "Well, you can belong to me for now. Ha! A peridot with a pearl, what would they say back home?"
Given SU's solid track record with characterizing the gems, I'm confident we'll know more about Rose eventually. I'm hoping there will be more to her than the seemingly perfect and beloved savior/warrior/leader she's been depicted as up to this point. Not that Rose will turn out to be evil, just more nuanced.
