That’s because bringing in those other pickups was the cheapest way to get a ‘not a full size’ pickup stateside. Change a bumper/headlight with an EPA compliant engine and just run a special shift at the plant that is already making them.

I thought this too.
But our family wagon is currently in the shop, so we ended up with a crossover temporarily. Based on my experience over the last few weeks, these points fall apart quickly.

My little 500e loses 30-40% of its range in the winter time. On top of that highway driving significantly reduces its range too.

This. I live in an apartment with no garage, and my employer does not provide charging infrastructure at work. My commute is ideal for an EV, but I have no way to charge it reasonably so I don’t have one.
