IT WAS THE MASTER'S PLAN ALL ALONG
Wow, this episode seems to keep to the more pleasant plots and is quite enjoyable… OH WELL, BACK TO RAPEVILLE, BEHIND THE WALL (it was enjoyable to see that place burn down and to see Meera not get raped, though).
Also I need to say that while I've only just gotten to the beginning of season 7, I've realized that I probably won't ever love Moffat's Doctor Who as much as I loved the show under Davies. Sure, the plot mechanics are tighter, the arcs are better written and it's become a standard to go through a million of parallel…
I didn't dislike the multiple Masters at the time, just thought it was completely insane. I guess it just got lost under all the other insanity that The End of Time offered.
How did I forget the Master Race happened? If anyone asked me to recount The End of Time before this recap, I seriously wouldn't remember to mention the part where everyone turns into John Simm.
I'm hardly keeping up with which goon is working for which party and I hope I'm not alone in that.
Eh, turning it around to shaming Elena is not my favourite commenting move.
especially not killing people while making sure everybody knows that the only reason you're not killing people right now is to impress a girl
I think that calling this a return to s1 Caroline is a severe overreaction, but it is a stepback.
They really haven't done any favors to Caroline's character lately.
I DIDN'T KILL PEOPLE WHEN I LEARNED THE BAD NEWS, ELENA. THAT IS PROGRESS, ELENA. I DESERVE TO BE CONGRATULATED, ELENA.
I choose to believe this only applies to straight porn and that guys in gay porn are all awesome. I don't want to jack off to douchebags. (That said, I probably will)
There's also a sharp decrease in desaturated grittiness, more focus on demons and the story arc compared to the first two seasons and two prominent supporting characters drawing attention from the boys.
It's also kind of weird that the network would mandate something like "You know that moderately successful spinoff show that's in its first season right now? Yeah, let's do a clone of that but without the good parts"
Kevin and his mom were also constructed almost entirely out of Asian stereotypes, so I'm not sure if I'd put them out there as good examples of diversity. (I liked both of them, but still)
Yes please. If they did some research they could also tap into a whole world of arcane stuff that Supernatural doesn't care about, maybe even explain the connection between Men of Letters and Thelema or something. Use Aleister OG Crowley as a character. Have fun conversations with Madame Blavatsky.
I think this is a 'don't worry about it' situation where I would have no problem not asking all of those question… if the show itself was good, which doesn't seem to be the case.
Acceptable spin-off idea: alternative universe where Crowley married Jody and she reluctantly rules hell by his side; the show is a classic sitcom complete with a laugh track..
Yeah, no, if we are supposed to take this as a pilot of a supernatural show, it's probably the worst one I've seen in years. Tonally, it fails to distinguish itself from the "generic CW show" standard, they use way too many tropes that are kind of . Half of this doesn't feel like it's in the Supernatural universe even…
