I recently watched the show for the first time (thanks Netflix!), and I can definitely say that the binge format really helps smooth out any perceived bumps within each season. What may have been filler originally is much easier to digest when you don't have the wait between episodes.

This. If they're going to introduce her, Episode 1 or 2 of next season makes perfect sense.

It was a perfectly constructed season. First episode served as a nice prologue, second episode delivered the de facto "inciting incident" that sparked everything, the trial at the heart of the season before closing with not one, not two, but three explosive, climactic hours.

Completely agreed. The idea that this show feels like its "falling apart at the seams" just…. fuck, it just baffles me.

….What plot?

But you also have to keep in mind, after this season was chock full of awesome climatic moments (Purple Wedding, Tyrion's trial, Mountain/Oberyn, etc.) they more than likely needed to preserve SOMETHING from ASOS to help pad out Season 5. Mainly, I'm at a loss for what they're going to do with some of these characters
