The bigger problem is that there's no curating for the storefront anymore. With 40% of new releases being a back-catalog dump and the other 30% being Early Access content with questionable development plans, how am I supposed to trust anything on there anymore?

Pre-loading is awesomesauce to be honest. Not just because it's great to be able to play a game right away, it also greatly reduces server strain since the bandwidth required is spread out over more days. All in all it helps to reduce the effect of online game troubles in the first few days of release.
