That story took all the wrong turns. I don’t understand why certain people go into teaching if they have no idea how to be aware that they are dealing with real, live, emotionally-developing children and adolescents.

As someone who can visually pass for different races and ethnic backgrounds, I can relate to this example and I’m sure many others. Hope you are in a good place now because you seem to have a great sense of your identity regardless how others try and box you in/exclude you/dictate where you “fit in”.

I had to watch the video 10 times with the volume up to make sure that staff member called her a “bitch.” I had to make sure cuz there were no arms swinging after the word “bitch” flew out of Knox Ridge Karen’s mouth. The resident kept herself calm and composed. I know some friends who def would have lost their shit.

I read shit like this and I thank GOD my parents chose to raise me in Canada. And while I, with my mixed AfAm-ChiCan heritage, was one of the few people of color in my school, I NEVER, EVER had to deal with this level of racism growing up.

Man, that whole exercise is ignorant. One thing traveling taught me is that how someone looks is a really poor way to figure out where they are from. Genetic features are only regional if you have never traveled farther then putting your head up your rectum.
