I know, right? There’s a few comments on here where people basically say some iteration of, “this doesn’t affect very many people, why bother talking about it” or “I just can’t bring myself to care” and it’s just like.... Ok? I guess?

Very comforting to trans people, thanks.
Philanthorpy has never been a measure of chaarcter. Otherwise we’d be praising the Koch Brothers instead of being repulsed at their roles in worsening the political right.
Susan Cooper and Phillip Pullman are the two fantasy series I now gift kids/teens instead of Harry Potter.
This - she was a beloved literary figure, a kind of ‘everywomen’ author that children, adults, everyone (except some fringe religious right, which made her more popular with everyone else lol) adored. Then she opened her mouth, and is now either actively disliked or merely tolerated, and the kind of people who still…
Thank you for mentioning The Dark is Rising, one of my favorite series.
I was a very lonely 11-year-old whom everyone bullied. My teacher let me stay in the classroom during lunch so I could read in peace, and she gifted me with the first Harry Potter book (which was controversial, because it was a Christian school). I instantly connected with the character, and eagerly awaited the second…
As a fellow lifetime Harry Potter fan what I always wanted growing up was to know what the wizarding community/history was like in the United States.
He didn’t repent....it was the same slop he pushed out.
I also have questions, but mine is restricted to just one.
Why not?
Yeah produce at Whole Foods is often cheaper than “normal” grocery stores, and its a whole lot better.
And if anyone tries to say “but he tried to make amends, he’d found God!” you can show them this:
Yep, brain cancer: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Atwater#Illness
Yes. There was hand-writing when Atwater died about how he supposedly repented of his bad and racist strategizing at the end, blah blah, and no, fuck that guy. He’s the poster child for why the American fetish for redemption stories is garbage.
“a fellow-student threw a glass of ice at her, “and it really hurt her which was the funny part.””
There are very few grim things that bring me pleasure, but one portion of that small set is the knowledge that Lee Atwater has been dead for thirty years and he never saw his 41st birthday. That pleasure is tempered somewhat by the realization that the stink and sticky filth of his horrid being is still slathered all…
This article makes me dig in deeper, regarding my take on yesterday's Dear Fuck Up.
The best moment, in his view, was when a fellow-student threw a glass of ice at her, “and it really hurt her which was the funny part.”
Yeah, the produce at Whole Foods is reliably good and consistently priced. The Whole Foods I shop at now has ridiculously high inventory turnover but I’ve never been in a Whole Foods anywhere and found all the broccoli limp and kale yellow and salad greens slimy.
