ESPN probably values reporters/insiders like Shefter , Mort, and Stephen A Smith more as entertainers rather than informants. ESPN could probably care less about any columns they write. It’s the ratings or popularity they produce on the various half-hour shows, and SportsCenter segments that will keep them around.

Whether its Adam Schefter or Stephen A Smith the “ESPN Insiders” I find it hard to believe that athletes really confide or break meaningful news to them. Just last week Kevin Durant gave Smith the smackdown.
