@WillyVWade: I have a Desire. Have you tried rooting it and installing a custom ROM with a undervolted kernel. I put a kernel that drops the CPU voltage down to 875 mV and my battery life is almost two times longer than before.

@Graviton1066: Here in Croatia we don't have unlimited plans, but every now and then the carriers have a sale where if you sign with them, your plan is 50% off for two years.
