I remember a behind the scenes on it, those were incredibly detailed models. The way they did the cloud effects for the ships entering the atmosphere (by simply adding inks to water) was interesting as well.

Other than the White House, which is obviously important beyond its status as a monument, do they blow up many historic sites? They destroy our cities, but I don't remember seeing them destroying say Mount Rushmore or the Sphinx or some such.

To be fair to the original movie, a lot of the explosions were practical effects done with miniatures, and while it's hardly an amazing film, the effects hold up a lot better than than some films made a decade later.

You're one hoopy frood, no doubt about it.
