I've always found Howard's "look how hard I'm acting!" style pretty grating, but I thought it was a great fit for the pulp silliness of Waywards Pines. The show turned to crap, but it certainly wasn't his fault.
His visuals are terrific. He just sucks at directing actors I guess.
