As Thematt22 points out, it's about accent. I pronounce 'one' as I do 'won' and 'gun' as I do 'fun'

This has long been a feature on Hotmail so I'm glad it's come over to Gmail too.
Hyphens are dying out quickly. Only use them when the word isn't that common, or the two constituent parts are quite long, for example 'light-hearted'. So, as everyone else has said, 'online'.
Correct them in public, not in a private message, thus warning everyone of the fact it's a hoax. Perhaps phrase it as if you researched it further by using the word 'apparently', thus avoiding coming across as a know-it-all dickhead, and may excuse you if it turns out YOU are wrong.
