What I meant was that you can't just upload a 50mb file, then delete it ten times over, you need to have a total of 500mb to get the 500mb. I think it is then a cumulative process where once you have uploaded a total of 1GB without deleting you will get 1GB etc...

It's intended to allow people to show others their notes and 'passages' that they found interesting. May be relevant for book clubs etc I guess, but I've never had a use for it. It also allows you to sync bookmarks, highlights and notes between other devices (eg PC, Andorid/iOS kindle app etc)
