The airports are at least thinking of the power issue. I worked on an expansion for a large airport and we added outlets under every pair of seats. Actually, we used a little box that has two 120V outlets and two USB plugs. We did an area with about 6 gates, and there were ~400 of these things.

I was at the gym once when this guy must have spent 5-10 minutes putting on his hand/wrist wraps, only to weakly punch the heavy bag six times. He then spent five more minutes taking off the wraps and walked away, looking quite content with himself.

Smartphone operating systems are generally more well-designed and intuitive than the proprietary in-car systems, so that's a plus - however, having a proprietary dock is just as bad as the proprietary system it is replacing.
