I agree, but part of the problem is that people don't change carriers on a whim, so it's very difficult to effectively vote with your wallet. Also, they are just colluding anyway. I don't think it will change unless the government steps in and forces it.

I think everyone has a bit of confirmation bias when they think about the place they choose as their home, so asking someone why they choose to live somewhere is always a loaded question. In my estimation (and I am not a lawyer), what the outcome of the case does is it sets a precedent (Some may argue, a dangerous one) of responsibility and puts a number value on this type of patent infringement.
