It really depends on the organization and how it approaches internal dynamics and leadership. When functional, senior leadership usually focuses more on strategic goals rather than tactical/day-to-day actions. This can vary pretty widely from looking at new markets to compete in, products/services that serve larger

i didn’t really think much of the Lego Mario thing until I watched this week’s Jimquisition and sat with their perspective on it. I can see how it’s justifiable as just a cute little thing that Mario does now, but the sad Mario calling out for a toy that you can buy to make him happy.... it just feels gross to me.

Additional Snark: Pokemon itself exists just to sell shit, just like most of the cartoons from the 80s did (Transformers, GI Joe, etc.).

I remember Humble Bundle was started way-back-when by Wolfire, who had made Lugaru (one of my favorite indie games). It looks like they changed hands a few times since, and have been owned by Ziff-Davis (IGN) for the past few years.

Between that, and the brand’s expansion to include persistent bundles, a subscription

The writing was on the wall when Ziff Davis acquired them in 2017. Kind of surprised it took them this long to greed it up, tbh. Were probably waiting for all of us to forget they were acquired by a megaconglomerate so that we wouldn’t associate the shitty policy changes with the acquisition. Didn’t forget!

The sliders were also useful for spite purchases - buying a game from a particularly offensive developer but sliding alllllll the profit to charity.  I’m going to miss that.

As someone who prioritizes retro gaming and preservation as much as many modern features, their original announcement had actually soured me somewhat on the idea of getting a PS5 anytime soon, so if anything this reversal just puts me back where I had started.

like if the supposed ‘bad press’ generated a bunch of money for them...was it bad press?

i don’t want to be too cynical, but it really just feels like they wanted to see if a mere announcement like this would turn the free youtube/journalism pr machine on and generate a bunch of revenue quickly in a weird space that wasn’t generating anything.

Yeah. There’s no such thing as a nuanced conversation anymore, especially on the Internet.

Exactly. And the whole stupid controversy on orcs probably the dumbest example.

That’s always my biggest gripe with these sorts of controversies. They always end up involving something that its in-depth enough that you could write a bloody thesis on it. There are so many nuances and variables, it could lie anywhere on a spectrum.

I’ve seen almost zero criticism of the game on those grounds in the articles I’ve read here, which seems strange to me. It’s a game that thoroughly ripped off BOTW and it’s made by a shitty Chinese company to boot. I swear, people will play anything if it’s free. And I understand that it’s a “good” and “solid” and

Came in here expecting to see the boycott being about how the game is owned by the chinese government and about the genocide.

All Genshin groups I have seen are making fun of this whole “boycottgenshin” thing. It’s just “woke” people stirring up trouble where it is not needed. I mean, it would make sense if they were complaining about horrible gatcha rates or bugs or whatnot, but development delays and nitpicking characters and races within

I have a great reason to not play it

Live also had the capability to watch Netflix simultaneously in a virtual movie theater with members of your party.

Forespoken didn’t really catch my attention... Until she started zapping around. The rest of it looked kind of dull in like a 2010s Big Brown Action Game kind of way, but I’m intrigued by the movement.

In case you were wondering which Pokemon is used for his profile pic, it’s Combusken. Some astute observers may have noticed it is shaped quite a bit like a penis, once peeled.
