I'm hopeful too. They haven't even gotten to SPOILERS the governor or given Michonne much screentime yet. There's a lot more action ahead of us. I think the monologue was supposed to show Lori being slightly unhinged (just as Rick is). Can you imagine being 9 months pregnant during the zombie apocalypse? They're each quietly falling apart without the other.
