I can't believe I actually watched this. I also can't believe this was a hit show.

Is there anyone worse than the self-aware jerk?

The books actually put a pretty good gloss on Pa's recklessness and wanderlust. The real-life Pa was even more feckless and the real-life Ma was even more put-upon than the books suggest. The Ingalls suffered terribly from Pa's bad decisions. It wasn't until pretty late in Laura's life that she enjoyed any measure of

And one more season of Deadwood!

I'm thinking there will be some big scenes with her and Colin Hanks towards the end of the season. They wouldn't have hired someone of her caliber just to play a generic, nice sister.

It's also, like, the third or fourth time they've shown Rick and Shane walking through the woods looking for something, armed to the teeth, and arguing. I fully expect there to be another scene where Shane does finally take a shot at Rick, which would be…[sigh]

This may come as a surprise to you, but most racists don't belong to the KKK. And racism can come in subtler, more insidious forms than burning a cross on someone's lawn.

I'll never understand the fan love for Dale. Am I the only one to find him vaguely creepy?

Now that you guys have brought up AD, I just realized:

What Neclord said. I like Aisha Tyler and she can be a great guest, but she talks way too much to be a good host. She needs to learn how to fade into the background more and give her guests more room.

Misogyny is in the source material. You can't really blame Sutter and co. for depicting the sexism and brutality that's rampant among outlaw bikers. They're not glorifying the rapes and beatings at all.

I see your point, but there's something about this supposed open-mindedness and authority-spurning in nerd culture that translates into a blindness towards things like racism and sexism in things like comic books, gaming, fantasy and sci-fi, etc. There's this mentality that because nerds are supposedly enlightened,

Agreed. The Pop Culture Happy Hour podcast had a recent discussion of the DC universe relaunch that made your point about continuity—it shuts out curious newbies who don't want to invest the vast amount of time and energy figuring out the various storylines, universes, etc. It can be intimidating.

Interesting point about competitiveness and sports, but I think John Hodgman is forgetting that there are lots of nerdy competitions out there, some of which are (sorta) modeled on sports: spelling bees, Model UN, debate team, academic decathlon, etc.

I'm disappointed by all the dumb fat jokes. 1) they're not even funny fat jokes, and 2) Adele isn't thin, but she's not the heifer you all are making her out to be. I also have a feeling many of you probably aren't on the svelte side either.

At this point, I'm hoping the lack of defenses and even the absurd rule about not carrying around guns on the farm is tied to the mystery about the barn, etc. and everything will make sense

He's Korean!

Shane was in there, hogging the mirror.

Responding late because I just watched this episode: Dexter's more interested in an eye-for-eye justice, not comforting the bereaved. His whole MO is going after killers who have managed to slip through the cracks of the justice system. Those families aren't going to get 'closure' no matter what he does. At least by
