American Dad did a great little bit with the fact that Steve's chin also looks sort of like genitalia (Roger was involved, of course).

Given the previews, it seems like this ep was setting up later tension between Julie and her parents. Not really looking forward to that storyline.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Gracie is seriously bizarre-looking. It pains me that FNL couldn't afford a cuter baby.

I love Tim's character arc. He goes from fuck-up to stand-up guy to supposed fuck-up/super stand-up guy and now it seems he might be starting to gain a bitter edge that might stunt his maturation. The ups and downs remind me of Matt's arc…I hope Tim ends up in a similarly happy place by the end of the season.

Here's hoping they move away from the somewhat cartoonish/flat depiction of West Dillon and the McCoys. Right now, they're just villains for us to hate. The rivalry would be more realistic and interesting if we can sympathize with the scrappy East Dillon team AND the ultra-dedicated West Dillon team.

C for being too fan boy?
That seems harsh. It was a nice documentary. I agree that it could have delved deeper into Hicks' philosophy and the sources of his humor, but it is a nice introduction for anyone who might not be too familiar with his work.

That's enough Will Ferrell
That's enough.

Violence doesn't necessarily warrant an R rating. I'm guessing this movie doesn't have much or any sexual content and little modern swearing.

From what I've heard about True Grit, it is not attempting to be a Big Serious Film with Big Serious Ideas. It's just a great story, done really well. Unlike No Country, it's not trying to probe the nature of good and evil, so it gets an A minus.

Tacking on: I'd liken it more to seeing The Nutcracker in December or something like that. It's a comfortable tradition and it's a way to connect with other people around a shared experience. Discussing the cheapness of the sets or dated attempt to provoke misses the point.

It's strange to criticize The Rocky Horror Picture Show for not being subverisve anymore
I think the supposed shock of seeing transvestites and openly gay characters wore off a long, long time ago. The movie has been a campy cult artifact longer than it has been notorious. As this review acknowledges, seeing the film

I love the Anya and Xander duet
Even though it's just a retro pastiche. It's funny, the tone, choreography, etc. is spot-on and it defines their relationship and personalities perfectly in just one song.

Agreed. Their duet was emotionally powerful without being maudlin. Head and Benson sell the moment completely.

Sigh. Deb and Dexter had a fucking conversation in which she said she was going to move out. That took care of that. There was no narrative need to show her actually packing up and driving a fucking U-Haul.

I guessed that Deb simply gave her keys back to Dexter. He's not careless enough to overlook a detail like that, particularly where Lumen is concerned.

But he doesn't really change his worldview. Another one of the show's running gags is how Brian will sell out his ideals if offered something tempting in return. He's a Nice Guy who actually is a selfish jerk. He's a Liberal who would probably be a rightwing Republican if he had money. He's a Writer only insofar as he

I went to a Catholic grade school and Simpsons-related merchandise was forbidden on school grounds. I remember a boy in my 3rd grade class once wore a Bart Simpson t-shirt to school (on a casual day when we didn't have to wear our uniforms) and the teacher made him change his shirt for one in the lost and found bin.

The doll plot was the highlight of the episode for me. It was just so off-beat. I do wish it had ended on more of a bang. Maybe with a reveal of the girl's parents dead and propped up in their bed like dolls.

I didn't catch that at all. I knew he was supposed to be someone given the detailing on the forehead, but it wasn't obvious. I'm surprised Roger didn't affect an accent. That would have been a better episode, I think. Stan does the restaurant his way, but it's failing and Roger is pulled in to give it a makeover,

Many people in their right minds would refuse a ride with a bunch of normal-looking college-type guys. What do you think all the date rapists look like?
