That’s the problem. It doesn’t melt, but it warps so much that you can forget putting it back together. The fact that the top half is basically a ring makes it even worse.

Of course, airports are already passing that amount of energy, in the form of Jet-A and 100LL AvGas. With the electric plane, I guess the tankers could go straight to a powerplant rather than having to pump the fuel out to the planes...not sure if this is actually “saving energy” or is “greener” or whatever.

It’s not generating the power that’s the problem, it’s getting the power from the powerplant into the jet fast enough to make flying it profitable.

The absolute key here is how fast can they charge the plane? If they can’t do it in under 30-40 minutes, airlines aren’t going to buy it. Planes sitting on the ground don’t make money, if you have to leave it plugged into a charger for 8 hours, forget it.
